I was a member of the "Hemingway" generation. Spent my last two weeks of leave while in the Army in 1956 in Madrid, "Sol y Sombre" at the Bullfights. 30 years later, my son ran with the bulls in Pamplona.

Hemingway and his wife had two plane crashes in Africa in 1954. They told the press they got by on "a bunch of bananas and a bottle of gin." Ever since, that damn song that was written about it recurs in my head a couple of times a decade. :>)
