JF, it is my opinion that we shouldn't do a thing except maybe work on regulations for mortgage trading and coming up with ways to educate borrowers and foil dishonest mortgage brokers.

From my layman's perspective, home prices are terribly inflated anyway, so they can stand a correction. I don't know if we should bail out the borrower, but I'm damn sure that we should not bail out the lender. Of course, that assumes you can separate the two.

And heck, if that causes a hiccup in the economy, so be it. Of course, that will help Hillary win, and you know the GOP won't want that, so I expect them to do whatever it takes on their part to actively prop up the economy in 2008, including bail out the mortgage markets.

That could create a "buying opportunity" in 2009-10, if you get my drift. Just make sure you buy using gold instead of dollars.
