I did some research on Chinese paper money a couple of years ago.

How often did the paper monies collapse? Every time! The allure of the printing presses was just too strong a siren call to the powers that be in peace and war. Sometimes took generations, but they all fell, everyone.

I like your "F" key metaphor, but there's a better one.

"Humpty Dumpty sat on a wall.

Humpty Dumpty had a great fall.
