The beginning of the universe and life was either an accident or intentional. I don't think there is another alternative. If you have another alternative, supply it.

If it was intentional, someone intended it. And believers call that someone God. And naturally, then credit God with creating us. How he did so - there are differences of opinion on that but the how is not important to the issue of belief.
