I think, perhaps, you are reading this in the context in which you wish it to be..... Jefferson clearly says he accepts the doctrines and principles of Christ but he never has said that he believed Christ to be devine. In fact his Jefferson bible removes anything that has to do with miracles and the supernatural. What person who is a humanist would disagree with the precepts ascribed to Christ.....they are only common sense for sensitive people who love all mankind. Jefferson identifies himself as Christian in the sense that JFK said, "Ich bin ein Berliner"....he didn't mean he was actually a Berliner but identified with them.
