KT,

I basically agree with you.

The U.S. can always wait and hope that Hamas's influence falls by the wayside eventually. But if you are going to negotiate now, Hamas has to be included. However, you may be missing the more important issue from the U.S.'s perspective. I don't think Israel wants to negotiate with Hamas! As long as that's the case, it's none of our business and we can't make them. Making things like this our business is how we get into trouble all the time to begin with. Not only that, but without even knowing the facts, I feel confident that Jewish interests in the US don't want Hamas at the table. So it's hopeless to think we are going to push for Hamas being at the table.

This is a problem that has to be solved by Israel and the Palestinians. The only role the US should have is being the unbiased broker that attempts to get ALL those concerned to the table. If all parties don't want that, there's nothing we can or should do about it other perhaps try to convince them..... or sit back and do nothing.
