There were also some great moments in the Arab world -- one of which gave us algebra -- and then there was the secular Moorish state in Spain before it was destroyed by religion and the consequent rise of intolerance.

And there have been periods in parts of the Indian subcontinent when something close to science held sway.

OT.

"Science and philosophy are two manifestations of the same phenomenon, like matter and energy."

Yes, I believe you are right on that.

The Buddhist Robert Thurman said the same thing, if I recall correctly, during a radio interview with the Canadian CBC Radio that I was lucky enough to listen to some time ago, I believe after the release of his last book.

I was brushing and spreading gravel on a bush road through a piece of property I had purchased when I sought solace from the searing summer sun and took a break, stumbling onto his wonderful interview through the truck speakers. His words seemed somehow fitting of my task.

It is the attempt to explain the world we live in, including the world within us.

Deep thoughts indeed while brushing through the forest and manually spreading gravel. What am I doing, and why? Is the gravel stones using me to spread it uniformly for it's own purpose, am I the tool?

Are we the unwitting tool of Gold I wonder? Do we prepare the way for its return?
