So the good news for the country is that Goldman isn't powerful enough to control who gets elected yet.

But the bad news is they don't care who gets elected. They will just just buy the support of whoever wins. And to decrease the odds that some rogue, non-player canidate gets elected, they pay off all of the front runners before they win (assuming, of course, that the the front runners agree before hand to the rules of the game).
