First, the debt level didn't decrease. The budget deficit did. Second, you aren't distinguishing in your questions between the budget and trade deficits which are different things. The trade deficit has more to do with the value of the dollar. You're right the national debt didn't go down under Clinton, it went sideways:cedarcomm.com cedarcomm.com I am so used the national debt skyrocketing under GOP presidents that the sideways movement of the debt under Clinton almost seemed like it was going down.Japan 176.2% Italy 107.8% Germany 66.8% Canada 65.4% France 64.7$ US 64.7% UK 42.2% Let's go through your list. The Japanese have the highest savings rate in the world permitting their gov't a high debt to GDP ratio. Italy? Hasn't had a balanced budget in its history to my knowledge? Its usually one of the major reasons for one gov't coalition collapse after the other......how many gov'ts has Italy had since WW II? Do you like inconsistency? Germany? Reunification has been a costly endeavor. Canada? I'm surprised......maybe its learned bad habits from its neighbor, the US? France? A lesser version of Italy.....and its shows. France's star as an economic world power has suffered badly in the last twenty years. Then there is Spain at 48%; China at 22%; Russia at 8%, Australia at 16%. Good money mgmt has always been a sign of economic prowess until the GOP took over. Now it rates right below godliness as a virture. Go figure! We had a trade deficit under Clinton, and yet, the dollar was much stronger. We've had a trade deficit for decades. The dollar has fallen and risen and fallen over that time. Nevertheless, the trade deficit has more to do with the dollar than the budget deficit. Really? Dang. You've got to be brainwashed or strangely clever. Either way, if the dollar goes up and down significantly even as we continue to have trade deficits, then there must be some other catalyst that's far more important than trade deficits. Think about it!Maybe the liberals in MN divert too much to their mass transit system. Nice try but no. The feds have cut back due to the war effort and tax cuts......and it shows. i don't believe it. What highway bills were cut to pay for hte war or tax cuts? Your credibility is getting pretty low now. LOL. At least I have some credibility. ;-)
