C2, I have pondered that question, the Flynn Effect, and have explained some of the reasons.

As you know, evolution is a harsh taskmaster. Merciless, cruel, relentless and final.

Like the peacock's tail, the brain is a sex organ. It is also very useful for avoiding problems and predicting the future. So the more intelligent males know that speeding is fun, but that energy and momentum are different. Wrapping oneself around a power pole is not an evolutionary advantage. There are many situations like that. But that just accounts for a smallish proportion of the process.

The big effect is that women prefer brighter blokes. Around the world, that's a strong factor in female selection of males.

As you probably also know from cruel personal experience, females are much more selective than males. Since one male can act as mate to several females, females aim at the better blokes. It's the old alpha male syndrome, which occurs in many mammals. Males are not completely disposable, but certainly a male on male genocidal war [the traditional type before nukes and the like] leaves plenty of males to tend to the females from both tribes.

Since the ratio is something like 3:1, we can predict various things such as the departure of the mother of all non-Africans about 90,000 years ago and the father of all non-Africans about 30,000 years ago. 3:1. Islamic marriage rules are 3:1 I believe [though I think they throw in one more as allowed if the bloke is up for it].

With some maths, we could even predict the Flynn Effect from the normal distribution curve and the rate of gain to be expected.

It's fashionable to claim that human breeding takes place at the bottom of the intellectual spectrum, but that's not true. it takes place in the middle of the mob. Those at the high end still do a fair share of breeding, but not quite as many as the mob. But at the bottom of the heap, it's a sorry story for the blokes who females reject in droves.

Every generation, there are a lot removed from the bottom and the average moves up. The high-end is replaced by statistical production of more from the middle to upper end. Even if NONE of the very high end reproduced, there would still be more of them produced next time around because most of the genes required are swarming in the mob in the middle.

There are also brain effects such as iodine, iron, lipid, protein and other deficiencies which occur less these days than in bygone eras, though there are still far too many of them. There is also lead, mercury and other toxicity which damages brains and is less of a problem these days.

As I used to say to our son as a youth - "Studying isn't much good, just pull out a bigger brain". Some of the young blokes at his school used to do hideous amounts of study, but them studying was like me practising sprinting - it wouldn't make significant difference, even with steroids. I'd still be beaten by Marion Jones without steroids.

You can't make a silk purse out of a sow's ear.

PS: I am surprised that you haven't studied my reports on the situation and committed them to memory already. There are also the corollaries about relative male/female intelligence and intellectual achievement and the education required to maximize their opportunities [which they are not getting].
