The basic research is nice, but to actually get a real benefit you have to apply it in real world drugs. Those drugs have to be developed (which cost the company money, even if the basic research is made available to them for free), and tested (a very expensive process), and marketed.

That expense is justified by the possibility of high profit. The high profit comes largely from selling drugs in the US. Which is not to say that if the US controlled drug prices the way that many other countries do, there would be no new drug development but there would be less. The point is that the new drug development isn't primarily the result of socialized medicine, but is in response to profit incentives.

Where do you think these folks think they will generate their profit from? The socialized medical systems or America? If you were unable to answer America you appear to remain remain willfully ignorant.
