AMD down 0.11 Intel down 0.41 this morning. Looks like a delayed reaction to the security bugs in Core 2, which Intel has refused to address. Let's face it, if performance is compromised by 1%, or even 10%, in a couple of apps it's probably not going to really matter that much (or not be noticed at all). But if a security bug lets hackers take over your PC, performance can be cut 90% or 100% - and lots of other bad things can happen. Looks like Mr. Market expects the AMD news to have no real effect other than putting a spotlight onto the general issue, forcing Intel to recall hundreds of thousands of Core 2 CPUs. every single core2duo sold up thru April '07 had pretty serious errata, at least according to this link: darknet.org.uk. "Security guru and creator of OpenBSD Theo de Raadt recently announced he had found some fairly serious bugs in the hardware architecture of Intel Core 2 Duo processors:" "...he warns that errata contained in the Intel processor is susceptible to security exploits that put users and enterprises at serious risk of being compromised."
