If we had played fair with Ho Chi Minh and not given Vietnam to France, then we'd never have had to fight either...didn't we do everything short of removing vietnam from the planet to eliminate that trail

"If we had eliminated the Ho Chi Minh Trail in Laos and Cambodia, we would have won."

You have GOT to be KIDDING!

Firstly... the 'trail' was a MULTITUDE of paths cut through the jungle. No way to fully interdict from the air.

Secondly... have you never heard the term "Phyrric Victory"? We never lost a single set-piece battle, but all that was irrelevant in the face of nationalism and anti-colonialism --- the dominant global political motifs of the century.

(And with resupply from the Soviet Union and from China off-limits... please....)
