France was in Vietnam for 20 years before we stepped in...they got their asses kicked; so did we.And that war broke the moral fabric of this country...it never should have happened. What a waste - we all could have had a wonderful life. Instead we got Potterstown with drugs, divorce, degeneracy, anti-christianism and crime...that's what vietnam got us - what a horror all for the munitions and war whores.

Afghanistan - the Russians were bankrupted by their 12 year occupation which led to the collapse of communism, the fall of the Berlin Wall...Reagan had nothing to do with it except take credit. It was Afghanistan that broke Russia's back...bad enough we got stuck in afghanistan, but this country's bleeding didn't gain exponential momentum until Iraq - just a big sucking money hole - for the contractors and parasites who are looting that country and killing its inhabitants - and I AM NOT referring to the soldiers at all. Like every American soldier before them, they are doing their duty for their country and those men and women deserve far, far better treatment than the crappy system they encounter at home.

Oh and besides...I really like Dogfights on the History Channel...really, really like it...but I refuse to watch anything to do with the Vietnam war and last night was Vietnam dogfighting. It makes me sick to my stomach the horrors people I know and have known endured because of that useless war...

As I look back with the benefit of 30+ years of history I think we could have handled things differently in Nam and perhaps never had to fight. But, AT THE TIME, I was as convinced as anyone about the "red menace" taking over S.E. Asia, about the goodness of the people in the south and their plight against the people of the north etc etc. and felt I was there for THE RIGHT CAUSE. I have no bitterness over what I did or was subjected too, but I still TO THIS DAY detest people like Jane Fonda and her ilk and the lousy politicians that took MY VICTORY away from me. I see Karen P. wrote a snotty reply regarding Vietnam, was she there, HELL NO, does she have any idea what she's talking about HELL NO. We NEVER, EVER including the TET offensive had OUR BUTTS KICKED. We beat the stuffing out of anyone who ever fought us there whether it be the Cong or the NVA but THEIR POLITICIANS and THEIR PEOPLE beat the stuffing out of our HOME FOLKS and our LOUSY MEDIA AND POLITICIANS. jdn

You have missed the point completely...

If there is a lesson to be learned from our Vietnam experience it is ... "It is virtually impossible to win a military objective with boots on the ground when fighting an ensconced, native population that has a mindset of protecting their homeland and cause..."

It just ain't gonna happen...
