Sometimes I just scratch my head. Just saying that's "not the way it works" in your alternate reality is not informative.

That assumes they have control of the prices elsewhere.

And they do because they have to.


Drug companies don't have control over prices elsewhere. Not if governments in other countries can impose price controls and if needed compulsory licensing.

And they don't have to have such control. The lack of it means they don't make as much money outside the US, but they still make an incremental profit on selling the drug.

More generally having to be able to do something doesn't mean you actually are able to do it. Even if "they have to" was accurate it wouldn't mean that they do or could.
