" You seem to think that's a bad thing. Let's compare. Did Iran compel us into a war in Iraq that's cost us thousands of lives, a huge chunk of fortune borrowed from the future, a destabilized middle east and the rage of much of the world? Did Iran bumble, lie and bluster away a huge portion of the respect the world once held for America? Did Iran make corruption and incompetence synonymous with American foreign policy and American contracting? Did Iran give the very word "democracy" a bad odor for most of the Middle East? Did Iran force us to divert resources from the hunt for international terrorists into the morass of Iraq? Did Iran force us to treat our allies as second class nations, term the UN obsolete, and embarrass those leaders who'd stood up for us? Did Iran create a fear of American aggression so great that other nations began to ally themselves to counter our military aggression using economic and military means. Did Iran force us to become the face of a bully nation that tortures, that lies, and that has no respect for basic human rights including the fundamental right of habeas corpus? Did Iran create an international arms race for deterrent weapons? No Nadine, Iran did none of those things. What Iran did was to attempt to gain a pittance of nuclear deterrence, intervene in a newly chaotic Iraq perched on its border and refuse to bow and scrape in the face of our military threats. So, if you really meant to ask whether the CIA should view Bush or Iran as the worst enemy of America, I think the answer is obvious and I'm glad they're on board with most thinking Americans. Ed
