Most of our early ancestors brought a gun and their Bibles, and maybe Pilgrims Progress....Most of them could only bring the VERY most important things with them.

I LOVE the LOC! Did you know that, while you can have access to the microfilm of the Rev War and before, but that if you have any one in the War of 1812, and if there are any papers to be found related to them, you can actually touch the ORIGINAL papers and copy them??!! I found two of mine, with his Military papers, and after he died, his wife had to use the original copy of her/their marriage record for proof that she was really his wife. She was applying for a miniscule, by today's standards, pension.... It was totally awesome for me to actually touch the papers that both of them had had in their hands nearly 200 years before I touched them.

I hadn't realized either, that there are really miles of books in the vaults underground, and arrive to you via the mini RR cars in just a matter of 4 or so hours...
