{CFC] Countrywide Financial Corp Heard on the Street looks at the survival prospects for Countrywide - WSJ

- The trading in the company's equity and debt implies that investors believe that a very negative event will occur at the company. - According to the article, CFC's loan losses are likely to hurt the company's earnings for years. - The WSJ also notes the belief by some that due to Countrywide's large size the US goverment will not allow the company to fail. - WSJ also notes the lack of insider buying by CFC's insiders, despite the fact that the company's stock is trading at 53% of its Sept 30 book value.
