<<<I don't see how universal health care would change that. It's not a business vs doctoring problem. The only way for doctors to anticipate and address complaints you don't present to them would be to do massive screening tests on everybody.>>>

The health care system needs to be fixed. Any fixes if not properly implemented could make the system worse.

Universal health by itself will not be enough. It has to be packaged with other changes. Different parts of the health care industry have to buy into the changes.

I would like to see the doctor business model changed. With universal health care the revenue portion for doctors will go up and that would be a good time to change their business model.

In treating diabetes, using that as one small example, if doctors spent time on prevention, overall health care costs could be drastically reduced. Instead of waiting for kidney failure, blindness, or amputation to take place, doctors could afford to spend more time on prevention and or further progression once initial diagnosis has been made.

As it is now, only a portion of the population, probably the healthiest portion of the population, are getting massive and repeated (also much of the unnecessary) screening tests.

Under a different model, we could conceivably get more doctors who view their profession as a calling rather than where they are calling their brokers and money managers.

We have to start thinking in creative and fresh new ways.
