As I sat across the table from them I got this feeling that they were evil. It was probably me.

That's the "rational" explanation. OTOH, you may have been picking up something valid unconsciously.

You know how you get this creepy feeling when you're in the presence of evil? We got this feeling when we explored the old ruins we called "Spook's Cabin" up on the Lolo Trail in 2006. There's nothing left of the cabin but mouldered logs and the remains of a rock fireplace.

Bud Moore, the man standing beside me (and the author of "The Lochsa Story"), amazon.com
said there was a legend of a murder that occurred at the cabin. Nobody knows who the victim was, nor the murderer.

If anybody would know the facts, it would be Bud. He's the authority on the Lochsa country. His trapline went right by these ruins back in the late 1930s. He didn't know about the cabin or the murder until much later.

A lot of history passed by this place. Lewis and Clark twice. The Nez Perce Nation many times on their way to the buffalo, and on their final exodus while fleeing from General O.O. Howard. Howard himself, and all his troops.

The site is just a mile or so from Indian Post Office, a famous site on the Lolo Trail described here
lewis-clark.org
but you would never know it was there unless you looked diligently for it as we did.

It is evil.
