I don't think anyone expects AMD to earn more profit than Intel but I think AMD has been playing the wrong game for at least a couple of years....

I am not sure what you mean by playing the wrong game. Execution surely has been horrible, starting with Socket AM2 / Socket F 6 month delay, continuing to 6 month delay of 65nm, compounded by extremely sub-par performance of 65nm chips, and then of course culminating in a complete breakdown on Barcelona core.

The stock has very much tracked these failures...

I strongly doubt there are some inherent technical issues in the designs that prevented them from being on time and successfull. It seems more like a breakdown in management.
