Aerosappy - mostly an excellent article, but a few quibbles.

"gas power plants that mostly sit idle" - these are peaking plants, they are both beneficial and economic. There will always be occasional, very high demand days that need supplemental power.

Wind power is for real, and using coal or nat gas to balance the intermittancy is a good idea. They should complement each other rather than compete.

re: The Truth About "Alternative Energy"

Logic has nothing to do with it.

Science has nothing to do with it. Neither does economics.

The ignorant public loves wind and solar. They want a solar-powered 747. Never mind it can only taxi from Chicago to St. Louis.

It is the image... Wind power

Quiet, clean.........let's sleep well. Won't hurt bunnies. Electric cars at -20....that drive forever.

Geothermal...free AC fee heat..

Solar-powered ships and 18-wheelers. Yup, if only Wal-mart would deploy solar-powered trucks to bring our organic foods.

No more coal. No more NG. No more pollution.

We'll live happily ever after, Tiny Tim.
