Pretty good spin for AMD though:

Re: New York Times

I confirmed the issue with my supplier (who says the chips are not now available - he had no trouble getting them earlier).

Your bios needs to be at AGESA 3.1.4.x or higher to include the patch. Whether you really need it is hard to say, I've been using a barcelona server for performance profiling which means overloading it and seeing where in the application your performance constraints lie (sequential disk, RAM, CPU, transactional disk, network bandwidth, etc.).

In our case it's generally been RAM, so the CPUs aren't being completely maxed out, but they're getting hit pretty hard and we've seen no problem at all, of any kind. In fact, given that they're dev/test boxes being blasted with rough development software, they've been remarkably stable. They've held up beautifully under heavy load in our experience.
