If you think that asserting the rights of a minority against the majority is not a civilized principle, that's your opinion. I would disagree. Government assertions on religion will always favor one particular subset of religion and offend both other religions and the non-religious. It's a bad mix no matter how it is done. While my views are not the majority on this particular issue, they have a definite right to be heard and respected in a civilized democracy. And on this thread. If I had said that Christians are evil demons trying to take over our society, that would be unbalanced and not constructive. I didn't.
