Y'all are taking my naive-sounding question at face value.

The point I was getting at is the "damned if you do/damned if you don't" quandary facing the Prez. If he pursues the "get tough" policy on Iran, he'll be condemned for warmongering. If he follows the latest NIE and backs off, and they do, in fact, develop a nuke weapon, the implications could be disastrous throughout the region (and probably worldwide).

Since he's gonna catch hell regardless of which path he follows, should he err on the side of caution or take the politically easy path?

Personally, I'm of the opinion that the intel agencies of this country are so politicized that any "estimate" they produce is next to worthless.
