Columnist: Is NFL full of young thugs?

Posted: Friday December 07, 2007 05:27AM ET

Let's cut to the unpopular truth: The NFL has become top-heavy with players who don't aspire merely to be the best, but to be the baddest. The prison, gang and thug cultures they were been born to, or drawn to, or aspire to - even while enrolled in American universities - have taken the NFL by a ferocious storm that often makes America's best young adult athletes indistinguishable from maximum security inmates. So if Sean Taylor died at the hands of young thugs, how many NFL players are now willing to kick their thug-centric lifestyles and their backwards-headed, doomed trappings?
