Isn't there a Crank's Corner at SI where all the contrarian thinking about Moon landings, Kennedy assassination conspiracies, 9/11 'alternatives,' black helicopters, etc., can be voiced? If not, you should consider starting one.

I value this thread for financial and economic discussion; the blather about moon landings, and the rest of the fringe 'out there' stuff, is a nuisance.

I know, I know, I am talking to one of the folks who is already deeply invested in this kind of nonsense, so my complaint will likely fall on deaf ears.

This post assumes that I might get lucky enough to reach these fringe posters' remaining vestige of rationality; they might, if I am very lucky, actually acknowledge that these subjects are not welcomed here. Maybe, just maybe, they will take it elsewhere.

But I doubt it. The nature of these peculiar obsessions includes a dogged refusal to see that others just don't give a flip about them. Thus, the other side of my plea to the 99% of posters who are not obsessed with the fringes is this: don't get into a discussion with these folks, they can become tedious and interminable. If you wish to do so, please don't do it here.

Scientists around the world have used the Hycon laser reflector array left on the Moon to measure the changing distance between the Earth and Moon.

Still garbage. Edgar Mitchell was on Apollo 14, not Apollo 11. If they got the crew wrong, how believable is anything else?

This debate is a waste of time and does not belong here.
For starters there is no debate.
Anyone who believes we never landed on the moon is whacko.

It would have involved conspiracies among all the astronauts, NASA, the president, thousands of others, and in addition one would have to believe that Russia would have gone along with or had no way to detect if we landed.

How big and how absurd a conspiracy do you expect people to believe?

This one is pure lunacy.

OT

From history.nasa.gov

Spend 2-3 hours on these:
hq.nasa.gov

Note that reseau crosses were a 5 x 5 etched grid, so ones shown in the video you recommended are cropped.

If you want to jump ahead, go to:
Magazine 44/V (Color) Frames 6540-6696

Here's one shot in that group:

Eagle is approaching the Command Module during rendezvous. The LM hatch is pointed toward us and the Ascent Engine is pointed up and to the left.

Preceeding that one:

The Switcheroo with Gagarin (in Part III) doesn't surprise me. The info on Laika was new to me.

Did you set up a Men (and Women and Dogs) In Space Hoaxes thread?

Seriously, I'm still looking for proof that this whole "community" on SI is actually comprised of people. I have a feeling, which your comments recently tend to amplify, that this entire web site and all responses everywhere is an elaborate virus on my laptop.

At least, I have yet to see any 'proof' otherwise.
