You are missing the nuance. In ShortyWorld, what Abe was showing was his unwillingness to commit to principle. If he really opposed slavery, then he should have opposed it no matter the consequences.

Neocons don't care about pragmatics, much less reality.

So for the "good" of the nation , throw out the Constitution? Enslave people? Make the democrat party Illegal? all of these things are ok if it's for the good of the Nation ? And who determines what is 'good' for the nation ???
