I think it was someone on Minyanville that pointed out these vultures weren't buying common stock but taking very senior positions that offered protection against bankruptcy. If these companies were such great values why not just buy the common was the gist of it I think....

"The fact that all these deals are taking place says that the assets that have been thought to be most at risk during the credit crisis of the last six months have finally hit rock bottom. And that, in turn, says some very positive things about the economy and the stock market in general....

You can be a vulture, too, you know. Just buy stocks. "

Hmm. Dow a few hundred points off it's all time high, yet, this guy says we're at "rock bottom". Then, he tells us to buy stocks.

He might be right. If he is, I'll let my trailing stop kick me out of GLD first. I think the people buying assets are floating in depreciating cash, and are desperate to convert it into something- really anything, that's not US dollars. I'm hoping a good chunk of them choose GLD.

" ... they're going after troubled financial stocks in a big way, which means it's time to move in."

My thought on this:

1. Look at earnings estimates for brokerages and banks - they're being revised down weekly (sound familiar?)

2. One man's junk is another man's treasure - doesn't mean it's going to be worth as much to investors in 6-12 months from now

3. Good time to pump these up since earnings start this week (LEH) and next (GS, BSC) - and I expect massive write-downs, which will likely spook the markets.

Disclosure - long SKF
