While still several feet above the ground, the descent engine was shut down as probes, extending 5 feet below the footpads, sensed contact with the surface. (2) The LM descended at an angle, moving laterally across the ground. When the astronauts identified a suitable landing site, the LM leveled off and dropped to the surface. The LM did not hover over its final landing site for any significant length of time.

1)How does one navigate towards and hover over a suitable landing site with the descent engine shut down?

2)Since the thrust of the descent engine was not a factor upon landing, wouldn't the LMs landing area appear uniform with the Moons surface - as in dusty like the footprint?

bruiser, I'm not too sold on this stuff and, it's true, the flagpole never left the astronauts glove but the movie made some pretty compelling points.
