A candidate's meanness or affability is critically important in a general election. The more likable candidate has won since 1980: Reagan over Carter Reagan over Mondale Bush over Dukakis Clinton over Bush W over Gore W over Kerry Hillary will not be able to hide her true personality from the public in a general election battle against the more personally likable republicans. Huckabee and Mitt seem the most likable of the top 5 republicans to me. In the primaries, issues and trust count more than basic likability. Although Obama's likability is putting him in position to pull an upset.
