Hugh, your perception of the economy does not match that of the electorate. Most of the voters believe we are already in a recession.

The Bush economy stinks except for Bush's favorite corporate cronies who have been feasting on OUR money since 2002; defence contractors, loan shark type lenders, over-builders, oil companies, pollutors, importers of cheap Chinese goods, etc. Plus the already very rich who have been largely protected from paying taxes on dividends etc.

If you think the economy is going great just remember, it's a party. Trillions in debt spending can always great a temporary boom, but then comes the payback period. After Reagan's borrow and spend boom, which was much more reasonable than GW Bush's, it took six years of tax hikes to balance the books again, and the same after the Vietnam War debacle which cost us so dearly.

Bush has not veto'ed a single spending bill, remember. He's the biggest debt spender in the history of the planet, and for the wrong reasons. The money has gone to all the wrong places, and the infrastructure of our country has been ignored. Which is why bridges, mines and levees collapse while a trillion dollars is wasted in Iraq.

Also, this continuous lowering of interest rates is just sweet and lo, it hurts the dollar and is already starting a run on the dollar which could someday turn us into a second rate economy. All because so-called "conservatives" don't think we need to pay of bills.
