lexi...........I don't think I have to buy that book. If you google it all kinds of web sites come up with thousands of recipes for mixes. Gosh........thanks for posting it though cuz I hadn't thought of it. Great resource if you're needing something or craving something and don't have the (already made) mix in the house.

About the birds...............we had the same experience with some chicken we ate last week. It was so moist and tender and flavorful. That is what we are finding with most of the organic food we've been eating. I cooked some organic crookneck squash the other night though and it was bitter. So you have to use the foods that are in season when you go organic imo.

I have found some sources for locally grown food right here in my town. I've found that eggs aren't being laid by local hens right now because it's molting/winter time, and buying poultry from local farms is hit and miss too. These farms are small operations and literally have to grow the poultry......which are in limited quantities.......and (usually) take orders for it in the spring.

I'm picking up an order of meat from a club that buys from this outfit: thunderinghooves.net this afternoon.

Once you start researching organic foods, you find all sorts of local growers.
