lib Lawrence O'Donnell: I'm Too Afraid to Criticize Islam

December 12, 2007

Say what you will about liberal pundit Lawrence O'Donnell.

but you have to give him credit on occasion for fessing up and saying what media liberals really think...

but are too circumspect for fear of public backlash.

Appearing on Hugh Hewitt's radio show to speak about his earlier rant against the Mormon religion and Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney's belief in it..

O'Donnell let loose...

revealing what most everyone on the center-right already knew:

....left-wing media pundits are too afraid to criticize Islam as much as they do Christianity or Judaism.....

LAWRENCE O'DONNELL: I don’t think he [Mitt Romney] believes everything in the Book of Mormon. I think he’s lying about that. It’s an insane document produced by a madman who was a criminal and a rapist

HUGH HEWITT: Would you say the same things about Mohammed as you just said about Joseph Smith?

O'DONNELL: Oh, well, I’m afraid of what the…that’s where I’m really afraid. I would like to criticize Islam much more than I do publicly,

........but I’m afraid for my life if I do.
..........

HEWITT: Well, that’s candid.

HEWITT: So you can be bigoted towards Mormons, because they’ll just send you a strudel.

O'DONNELL: They’ll never take a shot at me. Those other people, I’m not going to say a word about them.

HEWITT: Lawrence O’Donnell, I appreciate your candor.

........Quite an admission indeed.

Kerry won but was cheated in Ohio because the election was so close and Bushies rigged the Ohio counting by 4%. That's not going to happen again. Democrats know that the key to making sure the rightwing stays down for the count is to not even let the election be close. In all the polls Hillary makes it close. Obama does a little better but is a very risky choice in the general election. Edwards has clear sailing. He is even fairly well-liked by Republicans and the religious right. He is therefore the best uniter out there.

In fact, if you watched the recent GOP debates, they cut to a group of undecided Repub voters afterward and only one had made up her mind who to vote for, she said Edwards. Ha!

Just like in 2003, the media is focusing on the two wrong candidates. Dean vs. Gephardt? No, it was a last minute surge by Kerry. Hillary vs. Obama? No, Obama may be surging earlier this week, but the next surge will be for Edwards. Why? Because as Fox's Major Garrett reported, Edwards is at least every Iowan's second choice, and since Hillary is slipping and people are nervous about putting their chips on Obama, they're going to vote for Edwards. It will be close but I bet he wins by 5% in Iowa, setting him up nicely for the next three primaries where he should win two out of three at least.
