Theological beliefs shouldn't enter into questions of Presidential politics. History records, by the way, that we've had four Unitarian Presidents (the two Adams, Fillmore, and Taft) and they didn't even believe in the divinity of Christ.

I hear ya.. I'm just presenting the issue from the perspective of a political strategist. Romney, I'm afraid, is fatally flawed as a candidate once more detail of his religious beliefs surface..

Coming from a heavily mormon community, I can tell you from personal experience that in a discussion of religion, they will tend to ignore glaring contradictions.. One of the most difficult ones occured when I asked a missionary who God's father was and what world did he rule over? And then I asked them who God's grandfater was?.. and so on.. I told them that the God I could worship would be the original god.. the one who created everything, including the "lesser" gods worshipped by the Mormons..

Of course, we were constantly at an impasse about how I felt the term "god" was being diminished. Because it lends to the belief that there's a different god for each solar system and that god is a colonizer.

But you know.. I always respected their family values, as well as their church supported welfare system. They don't believe in gov't hand-outs, and any support they receive from the church is only with the understanding that they are obligated to perform church service.

It matters a lot in the Republican primary due to the strength of the Evangelicals in the party. Unless we get Romney or Huckabee, it won't be a factor in the race after that.
