The GDP is a bad metric. It includes debt spending as a positive. Something Bushies will never tell you, that their "growth" is largely based on borrowing from China and Saudi Arabia and squandering the money, or ripping it off.

GDP also does not account for wasting natural resources. It makes over-consumption of such resources a positive. Again, it rewards waste, debt and living like there's no tomorrow.

Gallup, the polling organization, reported that 78 percent of Americans surveyed in November said the economy is getting worse. Only 13 percent said they expect improvement, a disparity that the organization called “the most negative responses” since it began asking the question in 1991.
