I'm sure all that is true. I'm impressed though that they've been able to back off from too extremist positions. Maybe that is because Joseph Smith died and a calmer head(s) took over.

They've abandoned a number of things over the years - polygamy, the racial barrier, ... they are probably going to back off on the Indians being Israelites claim too.

And of course, later on Brigham Young declared himself Prophet, moved his followers to Utah, and tried to create a state within a state there.


Since Utah wasn't in the USA, it was just a state, period.

I find all this discussion about Mitt Romney's religion perplexing. He ran in Massachusetts as a can-do technocrat, and the subject of his religion never came up once. Nor did it ever arise while he was governor.
