If we go into recession, inflation will be a distant memory.

That's not necessarily the case. Stagflation can and probably will happen.

And the flu that is affecting mortgages, if it leads to recession, could affect other flaky debt, like credit cards.

But who knows... maybe this will be 'contained'.

The solvency issue is real. Cheney and the administration invested a trillion dollars to take over the Iraqi oil, I think they saw Iranian oil as a bonus. They didn't get anything for all that money. That's a really big writedown. They can't chalk it up to goodwill either.
