I think a pen is a better idea. Our neighbor in the mts has a bunch of chickens that just run all over the place. The dog wants to catch one so badly, but we told her to leave them alone cuz their owner would shoot her.

I find eggs on the ground occasionally. Don't eat them though. They could be weeks old.

We always had a few chickens who thought they were eagles. You just clip the feathers off the end of one wing. That throws them completely off balance and ends their flying days. Banty chickens aren't that good for eating. We always raised Rhode Island Reds. Great dark eggs and lotsa good meat.
