WSJ Weekend Journal (3rd Section) has "Land of the Spree" showing, for example, the iPod Nano $199 or €209 or 34% cheaper to buy in US Dollars.

The VAT (value added tax) increases prices about 35% in Europe. Some years ago I helped buy a washing machine as a house gift, and it cost a great deal more than a machine in the U.S. (it was better, too, a stainless steel water-saving Bosch unit.

I have a friend who recently arranged to buy a German car here, then resell it to his nephew, and re-export it to Germany, saving about $10,000.
