I find it quite amazing how the once-revered institutions of organized religions, academia, the health care professions and representative government all have taken on the characteristics of vertical industry groups, each with players boasting career paths and organizational strategies rivaling Fortune 100 corporations, and all retaining the exemptions and protections they've enjoyed all along due to their once being considered, in one way or another, special and distinct from entities requiring commercial oversight. Sorta like how the common carriers no longer are bound by the rules of common carriage despite owing their entire existence to the legacies they've enjoyed as common carriers.

To the article in question, ElMat, I "get" some of your allusions and implications, but what's your main point?
