I moved to Salt Lake City in 2002, and bought a house there in a market that hadn't appreciated in years, for cash. Since then, it's value has tripled, but now, values have flattened and I expect depreciation in the next year. Which is why I'm going to attempt to sell this spring. I want to have the money to be a vulture.

All RE is local, but these mortgages, rates, and the problems they bring are national. The flaky mortgage that let a middle class dude buy an overpriced house in S. Cal. let a marginal dude in SLC ( and everywhere ) buy a house he shouldn't have qualified for. I think it's just a matter of time until the bulk of the country is affected.
