<<<I'm not sure I understand what you getting at. Obviously many people find insurance useful. The insurance companies are thus providing a useful service.>>>

Besides making a lot of money, what else do they do?

In 2006, the annual premium for a health plan covering a family of four averaged nearly $11,500. The annual premium for single coverage averaged over $4,200. We spend twice as much on healthcare as anyone else. Whereas, in other advanced countries when they spend half as much as we do, at least everyone is covered.

Our health care system is full of inefficiencies, excessive marketing, sales, and administrative expenses, inflated prices, poor management, inappropriate care, waste, fraud, and profiteering.

The health care management companies are at the center of this mess. They are by all accounts guaranteed a profit. They bring nothing useful to the table. They are just cash cows for opportunists.

The system needs major reform.
