95% of Republicans would not vote for a woman or a black, unless it were a fascist like Anne Coulter maybe, but about 50% of Democrats might not if they could vote for a white male of the same quality.

That is not so much because they care about race or gender, the vast majority don't, but only because they know the dishonest ruthless GOP campaigns will run racist and sexist ads and smear the woman or the black and that will keep them from winning formerly red states which are still evolving out of racism and sexism as a cultural tradition.

Also, Edwards is very hard to attack. The GOP would have to fabricate more libelous smears like they did with Kerry. Only Edwards has very little for them to smear. And if they try to attack his wife like the GOP did Kerry's it will backfire bigtime. Edwards is also a true southern man from the workingclass, unlike Bush who fakes his accent and is really a super rich elitist Connecticut preppy who moved to Texas and sold his soul to big oil. So red states are within Edwards's grasp, several of them anyway.

The only reason Edwards has a chance in the Dem primary is that 60% of Dems would never vote for a woman or an African-American.

As opposed to a 100% for the GOP? You may be surprised. Edwards has not led in any poll since the race began. Maybe Dems are far more advanced than you give them credit for.
