A good example of this is Katrina, where Bush pulled back the gov't help to let the private sector take over. The result? The private sector failed miserably.

Interesting fantasy world you live in.

The reality was quite the opposite. FEMA wanted to take over total control of the response and often made it more difficult for the private sector to help. It made that major mistake, plus other ones, but it did make a massive and expensive effort to provide assistance.
