Funny you suggest that. It brings to mind the gigabuck the US government just flat out dumped on the airlines immediately post 9/11. Most analysts screamed that the airlines' problems had little to do with 9/11 - although that ruined the psyche for a while - and had everything to do with overcapacity. Airlines needed to consolidate and throwing cash at them only wasted the taxpayers' money. I still recall the analyst who pointed out that the airfare from LaGuardia to Miami was less than the cab fare from downtown Manhattan to the airport.

Just throw money at it. Things will work out.
