In 1962, Vietnam was not really a war, it was a containment. The Green Berets were effectively using locals to form a firewall. But when the grand LBJ escalation began the whole place went nuts, mainly on corruption, grabbing all the US goods and money and turning the place into a big corrupt black market. Because we moved in en force the North Vietnamese also accepted help from the Soviets and Red Chinese. So the enemy grew in size too. prior to that it was just a local civil war.

The corruption in Iraq is just as bad and even Bush mentioned that av few times as a major problem. It's not just a major problem it's THE problem and the corruption is largely centered in our private contractors like Halliburton. It has also infected our military as like in Vietnam, corrupt Sergeant Majors and others are running huge scams costing us billions.

John Edwards is right, corruption has become the #1 problem in this country, at home and over in Iraq.
