Futures Higher on Report Merrill Will Get Cash from Singapore

New York -- A report in the Wall Street Journal on Friday morning that Temasek Holdings, the Singapore government's investment company, was to invest as much as $5 billion in Wall Street brokerage Merrill Lynch (MER: 54.50, -0.23, -0.42%) sent futures higher Friday.

An investment by Temasek in Merrill Lynch would be the latest in several large investments of sovereign wealth funds, or investment companies owned and funded by a country's government, into Wall Street banks and brokerages. Morgan Stanley (MS: 51.37, +1.29, +2.57%) said Wednesday it received a $5 billion investment from China Investment Corporation and Citigroup (C: 29.89, -0.32, -1.05%) announced last month a $7.5 billion investment by Abu Dhabi Investment Authority.
