Nice rumor rally Temasek's board has already given preliminary approval for an investment into Merrill, according to the report, which cited unnamed people familiar with the situation. However, pricing, timing and regulatory issues remain to be negotiated, the report said. A deal with Temasek may not happen yet, the report said, adding that Merrill may be in discussions with other government investment funds besides Temasek.

Sometimes peculiar behavior during expiration week has a natural explanation - the futures buying is simply driven by rapid de-hedging of expiring OOM puts, which is exactly why the NAS shot up a lot more than the DOW and SP. Note that this force usually reverses post-expiration, sometimes rather dramatically. -g- I think I said rally for 3 days, but this one was very late and mischievous for some reason. -g- There are, of course, other forces at work as well. I think it was a "save".
