Unfortunately, there are a lot of people out there that see animals as a commodity, something to be bought and sold, not as caring, loving, feeling individuals. Much like slave traders of old.

I had a Chessie that was super. Hell I don't mind dying because I might see him again. He weighed 138 pounds and when he thought we were threatened looked like a wolf. Really good retriever but we also had pet ducks that he'd let pull fur out of him for nesting.

This dumped dog today started relating to us. Big step. For raising a dog from a pup I'd say check out books written by Richaed Wolters. The man has a PHD in raising dogs.
